Service Technician, Rob Abel, is responsible for traveling to clients’ locations across the entire state of Michigan to work on equipment, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance. Learn about Rob’s career journey in this week’s Employee Spotlight.

Before working at United Foodservice Solutions, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

“Before working at United Foodservice Solutions I had my real estate license. It was nice to show houses and help people through the purchasing process.”

Why did you switch to United Foodservice Solutions? 

“I first found out about United Foodservice Solutions doing warranty work for (Founder) Link with my last employer. I saw (Sales Manager) Patrick at an Arby’s and asked him how he liked his job. He said it was great, so I gave him my number to give to his boss. I met with (President) Aaron and Bob and they were great. I’m very happy I made the switch to UFS.”

What advice do you have for prospective candidates?

“Learn all you can about gas, electric and wiring diagrams. The more you know, the more it will help you on those tough calls.”

What career lessons have you learned while at United Foodservice Solutions?

“UFS is very supportive and stresses customer service. They are a very giving company/family and I feel lucky to work for them.”

How has the industry changed since you started working at United Foodservice Solutions?

 “Since starting with them, we’ve got a lot more pieces of equipment in the field. We’re staying busier than years ago.”

What is a typical day like for you?

“A typical day is a lot of driving and trying to get from one location to another in a timely manner. The roads in Michigan are a challenge. Sometimes just getting to the customer is an adventure.”

How has your career developed over the years?

“They treat us like we matter. We are given anything we need to make our jobs easier and help us take care of our customers.” 

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? 

“I like to bowl, play; tennis, cards, floor hockey and drive my old Mustang around.”
