Employee Spotlight: Nick Starr

Nick Starr is our new Sales Representative. Get to know Nick and the experience and expertise he brings to UFS.

Before working at United Foodservice Solutions, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

“I was in the Marine Corps for 10 years,” Starr said. “I did 2 combat deployments to Afghanistan in my first 4 years. I then became a recruiter in Midland Michigan for the Marine Corps. My time as a recruiter is what showed me an awesome opportunity for a future in sales. I did get to do a lot of amazing things while in the Marine Corps and see some interesting countries. My time in the Marines was a valuable and amazing experience.”

How did you first learn about United Foodservice Solutions?

“I was born and raised in Grand Ledge, Michigan,” Starr said. “I first learned about the business when they relocated to their current location on Spring Street.”

How do you balance your career and family?

“Honestly, it’s just knowing when to end your day,” Starr said. “Having an understanding that not everything can be done in one day. I have found that it’s extremely important to manage your time and prioritize what needs to be done.”

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

“I like to play Golf,” Starr said. “I try to connect with my kids on their level. Meaning I will play Roblox with them when I can and spend time with them doing the things they like.”

How has United Foodservice Solutions helped you in your career development?

“They have helped me to expand my knowledge about another industry and explore the world of food service and equipment sales,” Starr said.

What advice do you have for prospective candidates?

“Be open-minded and try to stay open-minded,” Starr said. “It’s a growing business and has tons of room for growth.”

What do you like most about United Foodservice Solutions?

“The atmosphere is unmatched to anywhere that I’ve worked,” Starr said. “The emphasis on family and a good work-life balance is amazing. I also like the support that I received from everyone to help get me off the ground and running with sales of our awesome products.”
