You may have met Field Service Technician, Steven Reed, during training, installations, or repairs. In efforts to get to know Steven better, we are shining this week’s Employee Spotlight on Steven and the experience and expertise he brings to UFS.

Before working at United Foodservice Solutions, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

“I was a repo man at one point in my life. I met a lot of interesting people while doing that job.”

How did you first learn about United Foodservice Solutions?

“I moved back to Michigan and was looking for work. UFS was looking on Indeed and I liked what I saw, so I applied.”

How do you balance your career and family?

“Luckily, the schedule, although fluid, is reliable and if time off is needed, it is granted.”

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

“Outside of work I enjoy things that challenge the mind like reading and puzzles, but I will play a video game and ride my motorcycle as much as I can (weather permitting).”

How has United Foodservice Solutions helped you in your career development?

“I think UFS has helped me the most by giving me what I need to be successful. They provide OJT along with factory training, and I always have someone to call if I have questions.”

What advice do you have for prospective candidates?

“Just relax and breathe, it’s not a race. It doesn’t matter how long it takes as long as it’s done right.”

What do you like most about United Foodservice Solutions?

“I’m treated like an adult, and they believe me when I say something. When you’re in a skilled trade like this you get a lot of gatekeeping and questioning of your ability, not here. They pay me to do a job and they trust me to do it.”

What are your hopes for your industry?

“I hope the industry stays strong and continues to evolve.”

What does a typical day look like for you?

“My area is quite spread out. I may only have one call due to driving time. I would say on average I drive 4-6 hours a day. Calls can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours and for bigger jobs we will send two techs. They always try to have us home by 4, which is usually the case, and sometimes it’s earlier but, due to the drive time I do sometimes I get up quite early. The driving isn’t bad, especially when it’s going up North.”
